5 ways Pre-teens are THRIVING in Phoenix!

Parents across the valley have found great success by connecting youth to my REAL TALK Social Skills Group! Similar to piano lessons or karate practice; social skills groups help youth strengthen their ability to interact with the world and others. Different from therapy, Social Skills groups offer an affordable way of helping youth adapt to the world.

THE NEXT BI-WEEKLY GROUP BEGINS 2/1/2020 REGISTER TODAY!

Here are 5 ways that Pre-teens thrive at my REAL TALK Social Skills Group:

#1. Youth step away from isolation and influence of social media to build REAL connections with other youth who are navigating similar life obstacles. Humans are social creatures which means that we strive to connect to others. Having social connections is a protective factor that promotes overall well-being in youth! Social connection can help to reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress which positively impacts school performance and attendance.

#2. Many pre-teens are struggling with identity vs. role confusion. Identity = “Who am I in this world?”. Role confusion = “Am I an adult or am I a child?”. Forward thinking Youth will learn age appropriate ways to self-express. This approach allows the space for flexible thinking through a self-honoring approach. These skills are absolutely transferable to REAL LIFE situations.

#3. In previous focus groups, pre-teens have expressed feeling extremely 'body-focused'. Some are struggling with accepting the changes that are occurring with their physique. Others may be facing internal challenges with sexual orientation and/or gender. Youth will develop ways to honor their true identity through self-acceptance and self-compassion. Youth will develop ways to stand up for themselves, assertively, when challenged by societal norms.

#4. A professional mentor teaches youth ways to self-regulate giving them the opportunity to respond reasonably and rationally to tough situations. Participants will use realistic skills that anyone can do at any moment to literally 'cool' the body down. Emotions are allowed to be felt but they must be managed. We use real emotions NOT EMOJIS in this group!

#5. Youth learn to build trusting relationships with SAFE adults who can offer wisdom and support as they transition into adulthood. Research has shown that youth THRIVE when they have a safe and trusting relationship with AT LEAST one adult!
